Overview
On November 4, 1979, 300 to 500 students stormed the American embassy in Tehran, Iran and took 52 Americans hostage for 444 days. Debate and diplomacy was a key part of this crisis that majorly affected the political climate of the United States. Some have debated that this was one of the main reasons Jimmy Carter lost his re-election campaign. Some people believe that the Iranian hostage crisis helped “bolster” the anti-American sentiments of middle easterners.
